Alumni Association

"We give something more than we take."

The mission of the Alumni Association is to enhance the McDonogh community by engaging alumni through a vibrant Alumni Association that provides opportunities for all alumni to maintain a lifelong connection to McDonogh, to interact with and enrich the McDonogh experience for current students, and to support McDonogh through alumni participation and giving in keeping with the traditions and values of McDonogh School.

Welcome from the Alumni Association President: Katherine Reider '96, P'31, P'33

Hello, Eagles!

I am honored to begin my term as President of the Alumni Association. I can vividly remember my first day of prefirst, stepping off the bus outside Elderkin Hall wearing my McDonogh blazer, filled with excitement. For the next 13 years, McDonogh was more than a school for me — it was my second home. It provided me with lifelong friendships, invaluable mentorship from dedicated faculty, transformative experiences, and a commitment to service.

McDonogh is deeply woven into the fabric of my life, both professionally and personally. The lessons in leadership and resilience guided my career and inspired me to give back by volunteering at school and supporting different initiatives to ensure that the next generation of Eagles benefits from the same strong foundation.

Recently, my class celebrated its 30th reunion. It was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with many of my classmates and reminisce about our time at McDonogh. For many, it was their first time returning or seeing old friends in years, serving as a powerful reminder of our enduring bond.

As a current McDonogh parent, I have the unique privilege of watching my own children experience the School. I love seeing McDonogh's timeless values of character and community being instilled in this next generation of future alumni.

Having served on the Alumni Board in various positions over the last six years, I have seen firsthand how our community thrives when we stay connected. I value the opportunity to engage with alumni across the different eras of the School's history. My love and pride for McDonogh have inspired me to give back as a part of the alumni board, working with other members to represent and support the alumni community.

Whether you graduated decades ago or just last year, you are a vital part of the McDonogh Family. Engagement looks different for everyone. It may be attending Reunion Weekend or a regional event, networking through McDonogh Connect, or reading digital updates. Every single form of connection is meaningful and valued. I encourage you to explore the McDonogh website, update your contact information, check out upcoming events, and continue to find ways to stay connected. McDonogh is a special place with a lasting impact on all of us. I look forward to working with the other members of the Alumni Board and hearing from you as we preserve our connections.

Board Committees

McDonogh relies on a strong network of alumni who give their time and talent to keep the School’s mission and community thriving in several key areas.

Black Alumni Committee

Co-Chairs: Mark Howie '88 and Alexis Seth '92

The McDonogh Black Alumni Committee exists to encourage and sustain Black alumni participation in McDonogh School life, including student support, philanthropy, and alumni initiatives, and to assist the School in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the greater community. This committee works to build and maintain Black alumni interest in supporting the McDonogh community through active engagement in alumni events and philanthropy, and to provide a network of Black alumni to support the McDonogh Sankofa Club and all McDonogh students.

The McDonogh Black Alumni Committee serves as a resource network for information, connection, and support to current students, young alumni, and parents of current Black McDonogh students. This committee also offers insight, recommendations, and strategies to the McDonogh Alumni Association and McDonogh School to foster an inclusive environment that advances racial equity and promotes a sense of respect, fairness, and belonging for all students and alumni. The Chairperson(s) serve on the Alumni Board and report on activity at Alumni Board meetings.

Equity and Inclusion Committee

Chair: Ana Rodriguez '08

The Equity and Inclusion Committee works with the Alumni Board and the Association to advance the understanding and commitment to E&I with the vision that McDonogh School's alumni have a deep appreciation, understanding, and commitment to DEI both in their work with McDonogh and their personal and professional lives.

McDonogh Fund Committee

Chair: Tory Klein Hoffberger '09

The mission of the McDonogh Fund Committee is to generate financial support for the School from McDonogh's alumni community, both in dollars and class participation. Our goal is to encourage each alum to give back through the McDonogh Fund, which comprises an important part of the School's budget each year and directly supports McDonogh's students and teachers. Members of the McDonogh Fund Committee are expected to attend at least one phonathon each year.

Outreach Committee

Chair: Phil Stackhouse '65

The Outreach Committee comprises two sub-committees: the Community Service Committee and the Social Committee. Both sub-committees are geared towards engaging alumni and encouraging them to participate in alumni and community service events both on and off campus. There is a real focus on marketing and advertising alumni events through emails, social media, and other strategies. The Chairperson(s) of the sub-committees serve on the Alumni Board and report activity at Alumni Board meetings.

The Community Service Sub-Committee strengthens McDonogh's tradition of doing "the greatest possible amount of good." The Committee engages in meaningful endeavors, taking part in existing community service projects or creating new ones to make positive changes at McDonogh, in the local community, and throughout the world. McDonogh alumni participate at various levels of involvement: from actively participating, to making a financial contribution, to envisioning and organizing entire events.

The Social Sub-Committee supports alumni events throughout the year, including EagleFest, the McDonogh Classic, the McDonogh-Gilman football game, Reunion Weekend, and Orange & Black luncheons. The goal of the Social Committee is to increase alumni participation at events, evaluate existing programs, and continue to improve social connections among alumni. There is a focus on getting the word out about alumni events.

Young Alumni Committee

Chair: Lydia Parker '16

The mission of the Young Alumni Committee is to ensure that the needs and interests of young alumni—graduates from the past 15 years—are met. The Committee develops events to increase participation among young alumni and develops the next generation of alumni leaders.
