The McDonogh community gathered in the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Athletic Center on Head of School Day — Thursday, April 30 — to recognize and celebrate the careers of three faculty and staff members who have served the School for 25 years, and 13 who are retiring at the end of the school year.
During the ceremony, filled with appreciation and joy, Head of School Dave Farace ‘87 and Associate Head of School Kate Mueller recognized Kate Hailstone, Tina Karpovich, and Jen Turner for their 25 years of service to the school. Following the 25-year tributes, the Fourth Grade Choir, McDonogh Singers, and Concert Choir, directed by Colleen MacLean, Suzi Eldridge, and Scott Barton, performed “Shine a Little Light” together.
Next, the 13 retirees, several of whom dedicated their entire careers to McDonogh, were celebrated. They are: Pu-mei Leng (10 years), Ann Whitman (10 years), Sherri Voelkel (10 years), Lynda Schultz (15 years), Christy Etchison (20 years), Don New (25 years), Mary Abbott (33 years), Marilyn Boyle (40 years), Ane Lintvedt (42 years), Cynthia Cox (42 years), Nancy Fleury (43 years), Harry “Colby” Gill (44 years), and Rob Smoot (45 years).
The Head of School Day ceremony concluded with the dedication of the 2026 Legacy, in the 50th anniversary of coeducation, to Director of Greatest Good McDonogh Jen Pineau ‘97. They said, “Ultimately, this is a story of becoming: becoming ourselves and becoming the people the world needs,” and added, “It is only fitting that our yearbook be dedicated to a faculty member who embodies the spirit of making our community a better place.”
