Educational innovation that helps students flourish
At McDonogh, learning is a lifelong pursuit, and so is our commitment to our students. Every investment we make in a student shapes the adult they will become: curious, capable, and ready to continue growing long after they leave campus. That long view keeps us asking, “How can school work even better for our students’ future?”
Two new programs, Direct College Admissions and Dual Credit, came from that question. Both help ease the cost of college and the stress of admission so students can put more of their energy into learning itself.
Direct College Admissions: Excellence Recognized, Scholarships Guaranteed
Through our Direct College Admissions program, McDonogh partners with more than a dozen highly respected liberal arts colleges and universities that automatically admit qualified McDonogh students and award them merit scholarships. Institutions including Gettysburg College, St. Joseph’s University, Ithaca College, and our state’s public honors college, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, have long been excellent next chapters in our graduates’ education.
McDonogh’s Promise to Our Students and Their Families
McDonogh is committed to delivering as much value as possible to its families. In a world of rising costs, students could potentially save more than $100,000 over four years through a direct admission scholarship — and that's before FAFSA is considered. Equally significant, direct admission to trusted, well-regarded colleges helps assure students that their hard work is seen and valued. Direct admissions can help relieve students of the unhealthy stress that can sometimes accompany the college application process. Significant financial savings plus peace of mind reflect the long-term care McDonogh extends to its students and families.
Dual Credit: Part of a Larger Commitment
Direct Admissions is just one part of a larger plan to support students. McDonogh’s Dual Credit program allows qualified students to earn college credit from several postsecondary partner institutions. Earned credits can provide students with significant savings, greater flexibility to individualize their college experiences, and (in some cases) the ability to earn advanced standing once they’re enrolled, which can mean earlier registration and more flexible housing options. Our students are — and have always been — competitive for admission to the most selective colleges in the country: that will never change.
These new initiatives, however, bring added value to our families to make high school, college admissions, and the college experience more affordable. And if we can help reduce the unhealthy stress that often clouds the college admissions process, this time of life can be more about personal self-discovery. After all, McDonogh’s commitment to our students lasts a lifetime.
