General Summary

McDonogh School, a PK-12 institution serving 1,400 students from the greater Baltimore region, seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated part-time learning specialist who will work with lower school children. This part-time position offers flexible scheduling, with specific days and hours to be determined based on mutual availability and program needs. The candidate will be responsible for direct student instruction, as well as collaboration with the McDonogh Learning Services Team, classroom teachers, administration, and parents/guardians.

Compensation will be offered in the range of $25,000- $35,000. Individual offers will be specific, and based on education, experience, and benchmarking parameters.

 

Essential Functions

  • Instruct reading, writing, and math to small groups of students in multiple grade levels
  • Use differentiated instruction with school-provided curriculum when planning, implementing, and evaluating student learning experiences with individuals and in small groups
  • Use formative and standardized literacy and math assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction
  • Interpret psycho-educational evaluations to understand individual learning profiles, identify and implement evidence-based intervention strategies, and conduct regular progress monitoring to adjust instruction based on student response
  • Assist in the administration of standardized testing measures (experience with DIBELS and ERBs preferred)
  • Perform data entry in a timely fashion to meet deadlines (student attendance, online pre/post testing, progress reports, parent and classroom teacher communication forms, compliance documentation)
  • Establish and maintain student forms and files as required by the School
  • Maintain consistent communication with supervisors, classroom teachers, and parents
  • Ensure supervision of students at all times, including escorting students safely to and from classrooms/learning stations

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Additional Experience

  • Classroom teaching and/or tutoring experience
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences required.
  • Experience using Google Suite tools, major LMS platforms, and other emerging technologies
  • Familiarity with universal screeners and progress monitoring
  • Orton-Gillingham training (or comparable phonics-based reading intervention program), math intervention strategies, and a strong knowledge base in the Science of Learning are preferred

Working Conditions

Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Other working conditions include physical activities such as climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, reaching, and grasping, as well as significant computer use, including extensive close use of a computer monitor.
