General Summary

McDonogh School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Head Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach. While leading one of the nation’s premier high school lacrosse programs, the person in this role will provide education and mentoring to the McDonogh community, offering an exceptional opportunity to shape young athletes while participating in the broader educational mission of providing life-altering educational experiences that inspire personal and intellectual growth.

This coaching position is a portion of a full-time role within the academic structure of McDonogh School, and, as such, compensation will be determined once all responsibilities of the full-time position are established. In general, the 10-month salary of an educator who also serves as a head varsity coach will be offered in the range of $60,000- $90,000. Individual offers will be specific, and based on education, experience, and benchmarking parameters.

Essential Functions

  • Essential Functions- Coaching Responsibilities
  • Lead all aspects of the McDonogh School varsity lacrosse program with integrity, including strategic planning, team development, and a positive program culture
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs that develop technical skills, tactical awareness, physical conditioning, and character development
  • Recruit, evaluate, and develop student-athletes while maintaining the highest academic and citizenship standards
  • Collaborate with athletic department staff, academic faculty, and families to ensure holistic student development
  • Manage game preparation, in-game strategy, and post-game analysis for regular season and playoff competition
  • Oversee equipment management, budget planning, and facility coordination
  • Mentor assistant coaches and support staff while fostering a collaborative coaching environment
  • Represent McDonogh School both in the community and at regional and national lacrosse events, building relationships within the broader lacrosse community

  • Based on qualifications and school needs, additional duties may include:
  • Teach in an area of academic expertise or interest
  • Supervise/mentor students through academic programs and/or advisory programs
  • Contribute to admissions efforts, campus tours, or prospective family events
  • Support outdoor education, experiential learning, or leadership programs
  • Assist with campus operations, student activities, or special events
  • Participate in summer programs, camps, or continuing education initiatives

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred . Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid training (or willingness to obtain). Must have a clean and valid driver's license.

Additional Experience

  • Background in student development or youth mentorship is valued
  • Collegiate lacrosse playing experience and/or significant high school/club coaching experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in program development, team building, and student-athlete mentorship
  • Experience in competitive lacrosse environments with an understanding of regional and national competition
  • Experience with recruiting is beneficial
  • Teaching experience, subject matter expertise, or willingness to contribute to academic programming

Working Conditions

Additional community responsibilities follow regular school schedules with occasional evening or weekend events. Coaching responsibilities include early morning, evening, and weekend commitments during the spring lacrosse season, with off-season duties including team off-season training, recruiting events and program planning. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Physical demands include lifting and carrying equipment (up to 50 pounds), extensive standing, walking, and demonstrating athletic movements. This position requires significant flexibility with scheduling. Travel for games, tournaments, and recruiting events is required.
