Doyles Woods Demolition 10X Speed

This is the 2 minute speed version of the Doyles Woods house demolition. The demolition of the Doyles Woods house began with the excavator striking the house's roof just before 7:30 am on Friday, June 3. In its place, a required storm water management pond will be constructed on the site, part of the first phase of Campus Master Plan projects.

The Wave

Lower School Faculty waved the buses off the lot at the end of the last full day of school for Lower School students. The students joined in the fun, waving and shouting from the bus windows.

21st Annual Cardboard Boat Race

On Friday May 27, 2011,ten teams of Upper School students gathered at the duck pond to race their self-constructed cardboard boats in a yearly tradition celebrating the end of classes.

Videoclass 2011

Lights! Camera! Action! This year in Videoclass, Third Grade students used animated characters to illustrate what McDonogh means to them. Under the supervision of special projects teacher Cindy Green, the students acted as scriptwriters, directors, actors, animators, and movie editors as they creatively produced their own videos. Congratulations to all the Third Grade students for a job well done!

Hawaii, What Really Happened

Mrs. Lewis' Second Grade class presented their play "Hawaii, What Really Happened" on May 10th at the Carpenter Outdoor Classroom. Audience members learned about Hawaii's history and enjoyed an original hula dance performed by cast members.

Jazz Band Spring 2011

Music for All

The McDonogh School Concert Choir under the direction of Mr. Philip Olsen was featured this past weekend in the Annual Youth Festival of "Music for All." The Choir performed with the Towson University Chorale whose director is Ms. Karen Kennedy. The McDonogh School Concert Choir and the Towson University Chorale combined to sing these two excerpts from the concert, "Earth Song," by Frank Ticheli and "Gloria" by Paul Basler from Missa Kenya.

The BFG -Room 206 Play

Ms. Hailstone's class presented a play titled "The BFG" for students and parents. The play was adapted by Room 206 from a book by Roald Dahl.

Church Sonata in D

A performance from "An Evening of Chamber Music" with members of the McDonogh Upper School String Orchestra and friends in the Tagart Memorial Chapel on April 27, 2011. The orchestra is directed by Andrew Shaud. The Church Sonata in D, KV 144 was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).

The Longest Print

On April 20,2011, McDonogh students in Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade stamped images on 800 feet of paper in an attempt to create Maryland's longest continuous art print.

Gentleman Songsters at Assembly

The Gentleman Songsters sang at the Senior Assembly to promote Songfest, an annual fundraiser for the Upper School Concert Choir. Songfest will be held on May 15th at 4 pm and will feature the Gentleman Songsters, Women of Note, Gospel Choir, and Concert Choir. Tickets will be available one week in advance of the show. Also be sure to attend the Upper School Spring Choral Concert on April 30th at 5 pm.

The Lower School Mosaic Art Project

The Lower School Imagination Celebration opened in April 2011 with a mosaic tile by each student and two mosaic murals of Animals of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

The Wiz - Preview

McDonogh School is proud to announce the 2011 all-school spring musical, The Wiz. Directed by Mr. Ken Waller of McDonogh’s middle school, this production includes students from the lower, middle, and upper divisions. Plan to “Ease on Down the Road” with the cast and crew of The Wiz on April 8, 9, and 10 in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre. Curtain is at 7 pm on April 8 & 9, and at 4 pm on April 10. Tickets are $5.

Family Fun Night

The McDonogh Parents Association sponsored Family Fun Night, an annual event for Lower School families. Entertainment included a DJ, moonbounce, and bingo!

Mr. GQ

Jacob T. was crowned Mr. GQ on Saturday, March 26 in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre after impressing faculty judges with his culinary expertise. Six McDonogh students competed for the coveted title. The two emcees for this evening of entertainment were Olivia M. and Heather H. All proceeds for the night will be put toward Japan relief.

Cardboard Boat Race

This is a video spoof on the tv show "Gilligan's Island" starring some familiar McDonogh faces to advertise the kick-off meeting for the Cardboard Boat Race on Monday, April 4th at 7-8 pm in Mr. Smoot's room (Room 18, Allan Building.)

Multicultural Evening 2011

"Cultural Connections Why Knot?" was the theme of this year's Multicultural Evening on Friday, March 4. The fabulous celebration included 25 student performances in the Ceres M. Horn Theatre, followed by a reception with entertainment and a variety of ethnic specialties in Lamhorn Hall.

Movin' Into Rock & Roll

This production by Second Grade students in Ms. Artes' and Mrs. Mitchell's classes shows the evolution of Rock & Roll from earlier distinct musical styles. Set in a music classroom, Miss Melody and her students are "Movin' Into Rock & Roll" and learning the value of cooperation along the way.

The Gentleman Songsters sang at Tuesday's Upper School Assembly to promote the sale of singing telegrams for Valentine's Day. Both the Gentleman Songsters and Women of Note will be selling the telegrams all this week at both lunch periods (1 for $5 and 3 for $10.)

Choral Ensembles Concert

The McDonogh Upper School Choral Ensembles, under the direction of Mr. Philip Olsen, presented a beautiful holiday concert in the Tagart Memorial Chapel. Professional and student musicians accompanied the singers when the choir performed Vivaldi's "Gloria (RV 589)."

All-School Holiday Assembly

The 2011 All-School Holiday Assembly was full of wonderful band, dance, orchestral, and choral performances by many McDonogh students. It was also full of a lot of characters from the "Toy Story 3" movie! Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, and three green aliens helped Lotso the bear, Ken and Barbie (yes, that Ken and Barbie) find true holiday spirit and brought the audience along for the ride.

Human Soup

Mia Halton, Upper School Art teacher, is featured in a stop motion video of her new work titled "Human Soup." The Art Department welcomes the McDonogh community and friends to an open house in the Tuttle Gallery on Thursday, October 7th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm to kick off this year's exhibition featuring faculty members Beckie Lamborn, Jon Detwiler, Oletha DeVane, Camille Quijano, Leslie Portney, and Mia Halton from the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.

McDonogh Roots Potato Harvest 2010

One potato, two potato, three potato, four! The second annual McDonogh Roots Potato Harvest was fun for all volunteers, young and old alike. Potatoes were harvested to donate to the Maryland Food Bank.

Back-to-School Jam Fest

Upper School Theatre Manager Sue Tanury organized the first annual Back-to-School Jam Fest, a McDonogh community kick-off to the school year. The Jam Fest featured classic rock and blues band "Mary Lou and the Untouchables." Students, parents, faculty, and staff enjoyed a tailgate-style picnic. Younger children were entertained with a moonbounce, kiddie tattoos, and face painting.

Lower School teachers Margaret Bitz and Peggy Moag organized a kick-off assembly to encourage participation in the "Race for the Cure." The theme was "We're All in This Together!" Lower School students performed their version of the Pink Glove Dance.
