McDonogh Mourns Loss of Former Faculty Member, Coach

McDonogh School is saddened to share the news that former faculty member and long-time coach Charles Richard "Dick" Working passed away on June 2.

Dick joined McDonogh in 1953 as a Middle School teacher and assistant varsity football coach. He led the team as head coach from 1954 to 1972 and had an overall winning record of 89-60-10. Under his leadership, the Eagles earned Maryland Scholastic Association (MSA) championship titles in 1959, 1962, and 1970; and he was named the MSA’s Football Coach of the Year four times. His baseball coaching career was equally successful as he complied an overall record of 131-87-1. During his varsity coaching days, Dick and his team won five MSA titles.

A stand-out high school and college athlete himself, Dick was inducted into McDonogh's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986 and received the Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award in 1993.

Details about visitation and a memorial service may be found here in the Baltimore Sun.
