McDonogh ID

Frequently Asked Questions

The following are some frequently asked questions about the new McDonogh ID photo badges.

What is my child's student ID number?

Each student is assigned an ID number when he or she first applies to McDonogh school. These numbers are random, and serve to identify students and tie them to their digital records. Your child's ID number can be found on your parent Personal Page next to his or her photo. The ID number is also printed on the back of your child's McDonogh ID card.

What do the badges look like?

The badges will have the student's photo on the front, along with their name in large, visible type, and the school's "M". On the reverse, the school's wordmark appears along with a barcode of the student's ID number.

When will my child receive his or her ID?

New Middle and Upper School students should receive McDonogh ID cards at the start of the school year. All returning students should already have ID cards. Information for students who have lost their ID card is below. Lower School students do not receive McDonogh ID cards at this time.

What uses does the McDonogh ID have?

With a McDonogh ID, your student will be able to:

  • Check books out of the library
  • Check in for "boarder breakfast" in the dining hall (free for boarding students, a charge for day students)
  • Purchase items in the school store
  • Purchase items in the Brass Eagle Café
  • Access the Naylor and St. John buildings after-hours and on weekends for school-related purposes, with permission from a faculty advisor
  • Access discounts at local retailers that provide "student" discounts

When may my child visit the Brass Eagle café?

Lower School students may visit the Brass Eagle before and after school, when accompanied by an adult. Middle School students may visit the café before and after school. Upper School students may visit the café throughout the day.

What does the McDonogh ID cost?

Each student will receive one McDonogh ID free of charge from the school. Lost or damaged IDs must be replaced, and a replacement fee of $5 will be billed to the student's school account.

How does my student make purchases with their McDonogh ID?

Students simply present their McDonogh ID at the time of checkout if they wish to make a purchase using their prepaid debit account.

Parents must preload money onto a student's account before the child can make any purchases. Students may not run up a balance "on credit." This is done to ensure parents are in control of how much students spend on items at the school store and at the Brass Eagle Café. Parents may access the MyKidsSpending.com website via a link on their parent Personal Page.

What if my child loses his or her McDonogh ID?

Simply alert your child's homeroom teacher, advisor, or class dean. Your child will receive a new McDonogh ID, and the school will bill the student's account.

Does my child need to return the McDonogh ID when he or she graduates, or leaves the school?

No, the McDonogh IDs are deactivated after a student leaves McDonogh. There is no need to return the ID.
