The Program

The American Immersion Program

Ages: Boys & Girls ages 9 to 17
Dates: Overnight Program

Session 1: July 1 to July 14
Session 2: July 15 to July 28

McDonogh is proud to offer programs designed to help international students improve their language skills and experience American culture. Mornings of serious fun will be followed by evenings of serious learning. Our programs combine excellent English language instruction and cultural immersion with wonderful amenities outside the classrooms. Our faculty is committed to helping international students reach new levels of understanding and mastery. At the same time, they want students to feel comfortable, safe, and happy. Their goal is to create a family among participants.

In the evenings, students will venture to Baltimore’s festive Inner Harbor, shopping malls, public libraries and other local attractions. The program also includes travel to places such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Hershey Park, Pennsylvania.

While on campus, students will live in McDonogh dorms. Home to McDonogh students during the school year, Rollins Hall and Jane Bay are comfortable, secure residence halls for American Immersion students during the summer.

American Immersion Program

Ages: Boys and Girls 9 to 17
Tuition: One Session: $2,995; Two Sessions: $5,690

ESL at McDonogh is a blend of academics, cultural interactions, language instruction, travel experiences, summer activities, and total American culture and English language immersion. Directed by Jenny Zhaohong Li and taught by our team of language specialists, the program will emphasize the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Classes will be small enough to offer consistent individual attention, with no more than 12 students per class. The student’s level in each area will be determined by a placement test given at the beginning of the program. During classes, students will create their own academic portfolio, which will track students' language acquisition progress. Classroom projects will be linked with field trips to Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.,in which students will learn the cultural and historical aspects about the places to be visited.

*Students have the option to choose any of the free traditional camps (Senior Camp, The All Sports Camp, or the Outdoor Adventure Camp) or any of the camps that have an additional charge. Please keep in mind the dates of each traditional and extra camps are different. Please contact our Summer Camp Office at if you have any questions.
