Title Associate Director of Admissions- Lower School

General Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director of Admissions for Lower School is to plan, manage and implement the recruitment and admissions programs for Grades PK -1 for the Lower School.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the coordination of the admissions process for Grades PK -1
  • Work directly and positively with the Lower School Head, Associate Head, faculty and staff to help attract and yield the most mission appropriate children to McDonogh School
  • Organize and plan on and off campus events for prospective families
  • Conduct parent interviews and tours
  • Oversee the testing and screening of all applicants to grades PK-1
  • Assist with inquiry phone calls and provide necessary information to prospective applicants
  • Participate in the recruitment of students through attendance at school fairs and open houses
  • Train faculty as tour guides for the Lower School
  • Organize and serve on the Lower School admissions committee
  • Actively manage communication of admissions decisions and handle waiting list correspondence
  • Initiate and maintain communication with feeder schools, making periodic visits to those schools
  • Act as an ambassador of McDonogh School to the community at large

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Bachelors degree is required.

Additional Experience

  • Two to five years independent school admissions experience, preferred
  • A customer service mentality when interacting with applicant families
  • A positive disposition and ability to function within a highly motivated and fast paced team
  • A strong work ethic, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other constituents within the McDonogh community
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • An appreciation for and willingness to embrace the culture of an Independent School
  • Belief in, commitment to, and ability to articulate McDonogh's mission
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills
  • Experience successfully working with a culturally diverse staff & community
  • Experience working within a lower school setting is preferred
  • Intentional about continuing to create and support a diverse community
  • Knowledge of the McDonogh and Baltimore community
  • Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable
  • Proven ability to maintain focus on a multitude of tasks at the same time
  • Strong technology skills- Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations.
  • Must have regular access to reliable vehicle.
  • Must possess personal qualifications as required, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.

Working Conditions

Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Significant computer use, including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Sitting. Standing. Walking around campus.
