General Summary

The Research and Database Coordinator will satisfy the information needs of the Development Office by preparing profiles, verifying research data, providing proactive research, and analyzing data on individual constituents of interest to McDonogh School. The Research and Database Coordinator will provide support to the Advancement Services Department by assisting with database functions, including but not limited to data updates, reporting, gift entry, and other duties as assigned. Work is performed independently and requires the employee to be able to schedule, supervise, and set priorities.

Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of the Director of Advancement Services, and in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Advancement Services, assist in preparing prospect research profiles for potential and identified major gift and high-level annual gift prospects for McDonogh School.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate donor profiles on individuals, corporations and foundations which include biographical, financial and historical giving information; potential for philanthropic support; areas of interest and affiliations.
  • Conduct and refresh wealth screening on a regular basis.
  • Monitor contact and internal giving reports for potential new prospects for major and annual fund giving.
  • Develop a process for identifying prospects within the leadership annual giving society that require additional personalized engagement and stewardship, and protocols for identifying prospects that have the capacity and inclination to give a major gift.
  • Provide timely research on new parents and alumni in reunion years.
  • Utilize data mining (zip codes, job titles, etc.) to provide proactive reports on new potential prospects.
  • Review and monitor electronic and paper resources for research-related information about McDonogh constituents, alumni, parents and friends of the School. Distribute and record pertinent information in the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Maintain prospect research fields of data in the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Prepare prospect reports and assist the Development office in preparing giving and major gift tracking reports.
  • Through professional development, keep up-to-date with effective prospect research and prospect management techniques as well as trends in the prospect research profession and the advancement/fundraising field.
  • At all times, uphold the ethical and confidentiality guidelines of the School, the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
  • Become an expert database user by attending user group meetings, yearly forums, conferences and other educational opportunities to grow your own capabilities and share with the division at large.
  • Performance metrics will include: prospects identified, prospects qualified and number of profiles completed per month/quarter/year.

Recommended Employment Qualifications

Must have at least 2 years related work experience in any of the following areas: development or academic research; data management; or information management systems.

Additional Requirements

  • Direct experience with Raiser’s Edge required.
  • Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations.
  • Must demonstrate professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion

Working Conditions

Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Significant computer use, including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Sitting. Standing.
